Levamisole is used in combination with the
intravenous anti-cancer drug 5-FU to treat cancer of the colon
after surgery.
Levamisole is taken by mouth in the form of
tablets. In colon cancer the usual dose is one 50 mg tablet three
times a day for three consecutive days, every other week. 5-FU
injections are given every week, and treatment max continues up
to one year.
Mild nausea may occur. Some patients may experience
stomach pain, dizziness, headache, fatigue and changes in taste
or smell. Please report these to the doctor or nurse.
When taken with 5-FU, side effects such as
sore mouth and diarrhea, may occur more frequently.
