Levamisole

    Other Names: Ergamisol


    Purpose:

    Levamisole is used in combination with the intravenous anti-cancer drug 5-FU to treat cancer of the colon after surgery.


    How it is given:

    Levamisole is taken by mouth in the form of tablets. In colon cancer the usual dose is one 50 mg tablet three times a day for three consecutive days, every other week. 5-FU injections are given every week, and treatment max continues up to one year.


    Side Effects:

    Mild nausea may occur. Some patients may experience stomach pain, dizziness, headache, fatigue and changes in taste or smell. Please report these to the doctor or nurse.

    When taken with 5-FU, side effects such as sore mouth and diarrhea, may occur more frequently.
