Northwest Public Radio (NWPR) has received a federal grant of $215,000 to put a new station on the air in Walla Walla. This station will operate at 3,200 watts of power from Pike's Peak on 89.7 FM.
The station's signal will serve Walla Walla and Tri-Cities as well as Walla Walla, Columbia, Franklin, and Benton Counties in Washington and Umatilla and parts of Wallowa and Union Counties in Oregon.
It will broadcast public radio news, information and entertainment programming 24 hours a day. This "News and Views" format station will repeat programming from NWPR's KWSU 1250 AM station in Pullman. The programming will include news from National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as well as public radio call-in, information and humor programs.
Volunteers in Walla Walla are undertaking a campaign to raise the $35,000 needed in private funds to match the grant and get the station on the air in 1996.
What's Happening?
Here's how you can help.

Each Day Sponsor will be thanked on the air ten times---twice on KFAE and eight times on the new station. You can select the times when you will be thanked, whether it's during the Morning Edition, All Things Concerned (ATC), Fresh Air, A Prarier Home Companion, Selected Shorts or any other program.
