Creating a Wireless Network Profile Manually
These instructions show you how to connect your Vista computer to your wireless modem or router. (They are especially useful when the network that you plan to connect to is not available, but you know the connection settings and want to enter them now.)
1) Go to Start, right-click on Network and then click Properties.
2) The Network and Sharing Center window will appear. Click on Set up a connection or network.

3) The 'Set up a connection or network' window will appear. Click on Manually connect to a wireless network, and then click Next.

4) Here you need to enter the wireless network information (network name/SSID, security type, encryption type, security key) for the network you wish to connect to. Click Next.
Note: Check Start this connection automatically if you want to connect automatically the next time your computer is in connecting range.
Note: Do not check the Connect even if the network is not broadcasting option. The non-broadcasting wireless network will be shown as Unnamed Network in the Connect To window; you need to enter the network name (SSID) and security key in order to connect to it next time.

5) This final window will let you Connect to or Change connection settings.
