Lower your baud rate to these rates, if you're not already there. 14.4 modem - 19200
28.8 modem - 38400

Edit the c:\windows\system.ini file
•in the [386enh] section look for a line (you may or may not have one) comxfifo = x where x is your com port (1,2,3,or 4)
•if this line isn't there, add it. Also add these two lines: comxtxsize=16 & comxrxsize=8
•Again, where x is your com port (1,2,3,or 4)
